Grand Rapids Sanctioned Turkey Calling Competition

Hosted by the Grand Valley Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation on Saturday evening.  Featuring some of Michigan's top callers as they compete for cash and prizes.  Judges will include some of Michigan's best known writers and call manufacturers.  Top finalists from the competition will be eligible to compete in the National Calling Competition.

ORV Certification Class

The Kent County Sheriff's Department will be conducting an Off Road Vehicle Certification Course on Saturday, March 23.  Certification is required for all children under 16 years old to operate an "ORV" in Michigan.  However, the course is available to older ORV operators as well.  Successful completion of the class will lead to certification as an "ORV Operator by the Michigan DNR."  A test will be administered at the completion of the class and after the class participants will be able to enjoy the show at no charge.  For additional information call 616-632-6223 (pre-registration is NOT required).  Class participants should gather at the main entrance located near the Box Office, students will be directed up to the class right before 12pm.

Super Walleye Clinic

Marianne Huskey

Marianne is known in the professional fishing world as "Walleye Woman."  She is a 14 year veteran to walleye angling.  In 2012 she became the first female angler to win "Angler of the Year."  Marianne is the highest placing female in professional Walleye Tournament history.  She has been competing at the professional level of the AIM Pro Walleye Series as well as the FLW Series.  As the only female professional angler who competes in these circuits, Marianne has been a highly featured angler in magazine, TV, radio and on the internet for the last several years.  She is also the director of the NPAA Youth Clinics for the AIM Tournaments.  Marianne works with other nonprofit organizations such as Fishing Has No Boundaries, Make a Wish Foundation, Christmas for the Children, VFW, Walleyes for Tomorrow, and Women in the Outdoors.  With the ability to grab the attention of spectators while on stage, at the launch, or while conducting a seminar, she has been recognized as one of the most professional anglers among her peers.

Mark Romanack

Mark, "the outdoors guy," is a life-long outdoorsman and one of the nation's most active members of the outdoor media.  As graduate of Northern Michigan University with a B.S. Degree in Conservation, Romanack has spent his entire career working to help others better understand and appreciate the outdoors.  Romanack's outdoor career started in 1981 as an Environmental Educator.  While working as a naturalist, he began to write outdoor articles to supplement his income.  His first article was published by Michigan Out of Doors Magazine.  This part-time hobby grew into a full fledged career with writing and photography credits in over 30 different local, regional and national magazines.  He has published 11 different books on fishing, including the widely popular Precision Trolling series, has authored more than 3,000 feature articles and columns, sold hundreds of magazine covers and countless support photographs, and has plunged into the TV world by hosting and field producing a new TV series Fishing 411 on the World Fishing Network.  Romanack has also become a public speaker on a variety of outdoor topics.  He is considered one of the nation's leading authorities on walleye fishing and all things trolling, plus dog training and wing shooting.

Dog Gone Dog Training

Watching a finely tuned hunting dog is an amazing pleasure.  Avid bird hunter, outdoor writer and seminar leader Mark Romanack puts his black lab, Mason, through his paces right on the water.  Covered in this informative demonstration are marked retrieves, blind retrieves, whistle commands, hand signals and a brief discussion on understanding dog behavior.  The goal is to show that with a little effort anyone can effectively train their own dog for waterfowl or upland hunting.

Mark Martin

There is no denying walleye are finicky fish, and fishing pro Mark Martin is no stranger to teaching others on how to catch them.  Martin has been giving seminars on the subject since his first tournament win in 1991, during the first-ever Professional Walleye Trail (PWT) Championship - which coined him the title "The Original Champ."  A life-long resident of Michigan, Martin is currently an instructor with the Fishing Vacation / Schools as well as a tournament pro with Anglers Insight Marketing (AIM).  Not to be missed, Martin will be giving seminars on catching walleye using modern-day open-water techniques and giving up his secrets to catching the most fickle of fish through the ice.

Tommy Kemos

Tommy is entering his 10th year as a Walleye Tournament Pro.  He has nearly a decade of speaking, writing, and promoting the sport of fishing under his belt.  He holds several of the most sought after titles in the sport.  Kemos has worked closely with companies such as Optima Batteries, where he has been featured in Grand Openings, Sweepstakes promotions, retail events, and even giving fishing seminars at Johnson Controls World Headquarters.  Recently, Kemos was hired by Optima to be the Marine eCare Manager.  Tommy lends great insights into all facets of the Marine business, with ten years experience on the service and sales side of the business.  He spent the last couple years of his marine tenure as a Service Manager at a large Metro Milwaukee dealership.  In 2006, Kemos was one of a handful of young guns to qualify to fish the PWT Super Pros, which opened the door to a Factory boat deal with Yar-Carft Boats.  He has been featured on national TV ads for Mercury Marine and Yar-Craft Boats.  In 2011 Tommy had three top-ten FLW finishes including the Championship and was the winner at the first AIM event in Winneconne, WI.  This well-rounded angler has also worked closely with tackle manufacturers and teaches classes in fishing as part of the Outdoor Adventure Program.

The top pro-staffers from Stopper Lures will present several how-to seminars designed to educate anglers on the art of bass fishing and the ins and outs of tournament fishing.

Topics will include Jerkbait Tactics and Drop Shooting for Bass with NBAA National Points Champion Don Watts.  Seasonal Patterns for Catching Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass in all conditions on jerkbaits and dropshots, from early Spring through Fall on Michigan waters.  Inland Lake Secrets with Paul Cowen.  Paul will share his secrets on inland lake bass fishing around the Detroit area.  He runs one of the largest divisions in NBAA and is an expert on bass fishing in the metro area.

Will Shultz

David A. Rose

What started out as an infatuation with catching fish as a child has turned out to be a career for Traverse City, MI resident David Rose.  Rose has been writing books, articles, producing photos for publications and giving seminars for nearly two decades now, and enjoys teaching his passion for catching fish to his clients who guide with him on the inland lakes of Northwestern Lower Michigan.  As a writer and photographer, Rose has been able to travel the country and Canada for a multitude of different fish species and loves sharing his experiences with all.

Jimmy and Jenny of Michigan Out of Doors TV

Jimmy Gretzinger grew up in Ludington, MI where his passion for the outdoors developed by spending time on the water or in the woods.  He received a degree in audio and video production from Michigan State University.  He joined the Michigan Out of Doors team in 1998 and quickly became the Executive Producer of the show in 2001.

Jenny Olsen grew up in Ortonville, MI where she developed a love of the outdoors at an early age spending time with her family pheasant hunting, river fishing, and deer hunting.  Jenny joined Michigan Out of Doors TV in 1999 as the Co-Host, and later became an Associate Producer.  She took a short break from Michigan Out of Doors to pursue other opportunities, but found eventually found herself back on Michigan Out-Of-Doors TV taping, editing, and narrating segments.
